Mirrors hang on the walls all around my home. Sometimes I’m content when I glance at my reflection, other times I dwell on the flaws I notice in my physical appearance. I wish I could tell you that the glass mirror never bosses me around.
The truth is in my flesh I don’t see clearly. The truth is I live in a world filled with conflicting opinions about beauty. The truth is I am an imperfect person in need of heaps of grace every single day.
Maybe you can relate?
The glass mirror may disappoint, but hope lives in the reflection of a different mirror. Not one made of glass. Not one that hangs on a wall. It’s a mirror that can only be seen by faith – with eternal eyes.
Eternal eyes that see like this…
You see an image, but it’s not a reflection of your flesh. Instead, it’s a reflection of what you look like in the image of your Maker.
Jesus is there. He stands with you and a warm smile is on His face. He gently takes your right hand and places it in His right hand. He shows you the scar – the hole from the nail that pierced His hand. Then He takes your left hand and places it in His left hand. He shows you the scar – the hole from the nail that pierced His hand.
He asks you to dance and the most glorious music starts to play. Your feet glide to the rhythm and He draws your eyes to the scars on His feet where the nail once was. And then He places your hand on His side where the final scar rests. He looks deeply into your eyes and tells you that by His wounds you are healed.
He leans in close and wraps you in His perfect love. As He holds you, a shower of truth trickles over your whole being. He doesn’t have to speak a word. You just know by simply being in His presence of grace that you are…
Loved. Treasured. Wanted. Enough. Accepted. Forgiven. Clothed in white like a Bride on her wedding day. Flawless. Valuable. Cherished. Known. Set free. More precious than rubies. Delightful. Breathtakingly Beautiful.
You are His and nothing else matters – because in Him you are found. In Him you are a new creation placed in this world for the display of His splendor.
He whispers in your ear to keep your eyes on Him because the world will try to toss you around, to and fro straight into a puddle of confusion. He tells you that you can always trust Him, always lean on Him, always come to Him. He reminds you that in the world you will have trouble, but He turns your gaze again to His scars — His scars that overcame death with His amazing love. He reminds you again to keep your eyes on Him.
You continue to dance serenaded by the love of your Savior. It’s a place you never want to leave.
When the lies come to steal, our Maker longs to renew us with the truth that we are His beautiful creation made in His glorious image. He sent His Son as a sacrifice because His love for us climbs higher than the tallest mountain, flows wider than largest ocean, and stretches farther than the east is from the west.
His love changes everything. It changes the reflection from stained in sin to washed white a snow.
