Verse of Reflection:
“How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.”
– Ephesians 1:3-6 (MSG)
My husband and I celebrated six years of marriage this past weekend. One of the most memorable moments of that day was our first dance to the song, Amazing Grace. As I sat on my husband’s lap and we spun around to the rhythm of the music, grace filled the air. Six years earlier, a motorcycle accident almost took his life; my life had been marked with some painful roads too. But God, in His amazing grace, took our ashes and created beauty.
Grace is undeserved and given purely as a gift, not based on anything we’ve done. It’s clothed in selfless love. When we experience the grace of our Heavenly Father, we can’t help but be changed by such love.
Our lives can be messy and stained in sorrow, sometimes because of our mistakes and sometimes because of wrong done to us. When we lay our brokenness at the feet of the Grace Giver, He embraces us with His perfect love. He is quick to forgive us and He equips us with the courage to forgive others in the same way we have been forgiven. He fills us, transforms us, and takes us places we could only imagine in our dreams.
Places like a gathering of people who have come to celebrate the love of two redeemed lives dancing together to the tune of, “Amazing grace, How sweet the sound.” God’s grace is powerful; it’s real; it breathes hope into darkness; it’s a beautiful picture of love. When we know such love, we too can be givers of amazing grace.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Father, Thank you for loving us unconditionally and offering us the gift of Your amazing grace. We praise You because Your grace is sufficient at all times, and made known especially in our weakness. You create beauty out of the most unlikely things. Help us to see Your grace everyday — not just in the bigger moments of life like a wedding day, but also in the every day moments where Your gifts abound as evidence of Your perfect love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
