Verse of Reflection:
“But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him.”
~Philippians 3:20-21 (MSG)
I sat on the carpet in a still house with a view out the window. Little one was soundly sleeping, snug-as-a-bug-in-rug. A day of doing mom things, house things, and life things was winding down. Out the glass a light from a street lamp contrasted the darkness of the night.
One light reminding me that He is the Light that never dims – even when my spirit feels dim. Inside, I felt homesick for my forever home. Not because I wasn’t thankful for my home and family and the heaps of other good in my life, but because this world just doesn’t satisfy. Only the One who spoke this world into being can satisfy us fully and forevermore.
Through faith we believe in the day we will be united with our King. Through faith we believe that God is catching every tear now, and one day He will wipe each tear away. Through faith we believe that each moment has a purpose, and God knits it all together for the good of those who love Him.
Through faith we believe that God is the One who gives us this day, this heartbeat, and this opportunity to do important work for His Kingdom now as we journey through our time on earth. And through faith we believe that each step is one moment closer to seeing the face of the One who has fought for us, carried us when we were too weak to stand, and loved us with a grace-filled-never-ending love.
While it isn’t easy to wrestle through the tensions we feel, the disappointments we experience, and the circumstances we wish were different, it’s often those very things that make us yearn even more for the Kingdom we were made for. The King awaits our arrival.
Contentment in this moment is knowing the One who will one day usher us into our forever home.
Prayer: Dear Father, Thank you that when we put our trust in You, we have the promise of a forever home in Your Kingdom. Thank you for the days when the sun is shining bright, and smiles abound. Thank you for the days when the clouds roll in, and bring us to our knees. And thank you for the hole You wove into our being that can only be filled and satisfied by You. Help us to live this day well, planting seeds for Your Kingdom. When we feel homesick, remind us that You are preparing a place for us and one day in Your perfect time, You will joyfully welcome us home. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
