To My Newest Son

Dear Son,

You’re dancing around these days, your movements gaining strength every day. The development of your life is a miracle—you are a miracle.

This pregnancy is flying by, quicker than it did with your brother, and I just wanted to a take a few moments to share a little piece of my mama heart with you in hope that one day you’ll be encouraged by these words.

Many prayers were raised to Heaven for you.

While the waiting for another child pierced my heart deep, it taught me even more about the beauty of clinging to God’s unfailing promises and resting in the loving arms of Jesus when nothing else makes sense.

You are the joy that comes in the morning, the rainbow after the flood of tears.

God is fearfully and wonderfully knitting you together, detail by detail, with such care and tender love. It’s a gift to be your home for now and I’m eager to nestle you close for the first time—eager to gaze into your precious eyes and see the handiwork of our amazing Designer.

You are already so dearly loved and will fill our home with even greater joy, because as Psalm 127:3 says, children are a gift from the Lord. You are our gift and we’re getting ready for you as you grow and wiggle away.

Only God knows the details of your future, but this I know: He’s chosen you for a special purpose and it’s my honor to be your mama and along with your daddy, to raise you for His Kingdom. And I hope you will grow to see that you and your brother are a declaration to the world of the greatness of God—a God who can do anything and work through the strands of impossibilities to make radiant beauty rise from dark ashes.

And speaking of your brother….

I’ll never forget the twinkle in his eyes and the way he folded his little hands together when Daddy and I told him the news of you. He’s overflowing with excitement to meet you and usually wants an hourly update on if you’re moving, sleeping, or just hanging out. He cares for you so, and gives you dozens of hugs and kisses every day.

It’s been one of our deepest desires that he have a sibling to grow up with and you are the answer to that prayer. What a a blessing it will be to see the two of you in action.

So for now, keep growing strong and dancing to remind me that you’re doing okay in there. And in another 16 weeks or so, it will be a joyous day to lock eyes with you and cuddle you ever so close.

For you we prayed, and for you we continue to wait just a little bit longer.

With Unending Love,

Mama

  2. Dearest Hannah,
What a beautiful letter to your son. You inspired my soul this morning to encourage my sons and to write them letters as well. Time indeed races away from us. My oldest turns 21 next week. Times together are rarer and so much more precious,
Thank you for inspiring me this morning with the love of God coming from your heart.
    Much love,

    1. Thank you, dear friend. I am so blessed to hear this inspired you. Time goes by so quickly sometimes and I have to remember to pause in the midst of it all to write a few words, capture a few pictures, and simply savor these passing moments. Time with children is precious.

Blessings to you and thank you for being another mother who encourages me in my journey. <3
